Brother Orchid is a 1940 crime/comedy film directed by Lloyd Bacon. In the film, crime boss John Sarto (Edward G. Robinson) leaves his gang to locate the concept of "class" in Europe. Whilst in Europe Sarto is repeatedly duped and due to lack of funding decides to return home and regain control of his gang. When Sarto returns, after living in a monastery, he is doublecrossed by his second in command Jack Buck (Humphrey Bogart). As a result, Sarto raises a new gang with the goal of destroying Buck as a form of revenge. Sarto is very successful in this goal as he constantly encroaches on Buck's territory.
