Chris Cagle (born November 10, 1968 in DeRidder, Louisiana) is a country music singer-songwriter. Signed to Virgin Records in 2000, Cagle made his debut with the single "My Love Goes On and On", which peaked at #15 on the U.S.
Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks charts. It was the first release from his debut album
Play It Loud, which received RIAA gold certification in the United States for sales of 500,000 copies; its followup, 2001's
Chris Cagle was also certified gold.
To date, Cagle has recorded three studio albums, and has charted eleven singles on the
Billboard country music charts. His highest-charting single so far is "I Breathe In, I Breathe Out", which in April 2002 became his only #1 to date. Cagle's fourth album,
My Life is a Country Song, will be released February 19, 2008.
Biography
Chris Cagle was born in DeRidder, Louisiana, but he was raised in Baytown, Texas. After graduating from Ross S. Sterling High School, he attended The University of Texas at Arlington for a short time, but dropped out to pursue a musical career. He moved to Nashville in 1994 and worked a number of odd jobs to support himself while trying to land a recording contract.
Career
After years of waiting, Cagle was signed to a record deal. His first single,
My Love Goes On And On, became a chart hit. Cagle covered the Lynyrd Skynyrd song
Don't Ask Me No Questions for the soundtrack of the first
Blue Collar Comedy Tour movie, as well as performing it with the four comedians over the closing credits of the movie.
In 2005, Cagle was initiated by the Missouri Theta chapter of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity at Northwest Missouri State University before a scheduled concert on campus.
Personal Life
Cagle married in 2001, but the marriage ended in divorce a short time later. On October 3, 2005 he announced on his web site that he was not the biological father of his then-girlfriend's baby

In early 2004, Cagle was diagnosed with multiple anomalies on his vocal cords, including: a polyp, a lesion, a cyst, and a granuloma. The diagnosis forced Cagle to cancel nearly 20 appearances that year, including opening for Rascal Flatts' new tour
[ Chris Cagle Cancels Tour Dates]. Cagle was ordered 60 days of vocal rest, although CMT reported that he did not sing for nearly three months after the diagnosis.

Legal Battle
In August 2006, a Nashville judge ordered Cagle to pay approximately $737,000 to former manager Mark Hybner, whom Cagle had sued in 2004 in an effort to void management and publishing deals he had signed in 1999. Cagle has filed a notice that he intends to appeal the judgment

On December 13, 2007, Cagle was cited by Tucson, Arizona police for assulting a man after a benefit concert at a local Tucson night spot. After the concert, Cagle signed at least one autograph for the man's girlfriend. She became aggressive after he declined to sign anymore for her, which led both the woman and her boyfriend to call Cagle names. The boyfriend declined to press charges and police reported that Cagle and his manager were both cooperative with the investigation.
