Crimpshrine was a punk rock band from Berkeley, California, United States. It was formed by the founder of the seminal punk rock zine
Cometbus, Aaron Cometbus and a friend, Jeff Ott. The band's origins go back to 1982. Within D.I.Y. communities, the band is often considered as one of the most important pop-punk bands, especially in the Bay Area scene. However, due to their relative obscurity, many pop-punk fans outside of the D.I.Y. communities rarely even recognize the band.

Biography
Crimpshrine was a punk rock band from Berkeley, California. They originally formed in 1982 with Aaron Elliot (aka Aaron Cometbus) playing drums and Jeff Ott on piano. Crimpshrine switched to a more traditional lineup in 1984, with Jeff switching to guitar and vocals and adding Pete Rypins on bass. The band grew out of the East Bay scene, centered around 924 Gilman Street, and had an important influence on later East Bay bands such asOperation Ivy, Green Day and punk rock in general. Crimpshrine toured the U.S. once in 1988. In Gainesville, FL, after ongoing tensions, Pete and Idon and their roadie left the tour and the band leaving Jeff and Aaron stranded with a guitar, drumsticks, and drum kit. Aaron interviewed a touring Fugazi and built a foundation with No Idea Records. Paul Curran was courted to join the stranded band on bass. He drove out in a Ford Pinto and finished the tour with Jeff and Aaron, also playing on a few recordings. They also managed to fill in as the backing band for Screeching Weasel while on tour in Chicago.
After returning from tour, a schism was widened between Aaron and Jeff, the primary song collaborators. Jeff threatened to report Aaron's illegal housing, where he had also lived underage, while hiding from the cops. While Aaron was out of town, Jeff broke up the band and they released much of their catalog post-humously, as benefits for local organizations.
Aaron is still quite bitter about the rough breakup, nearly 20 years later. Jeff was known to continue to perform a song they co-wrote "Inspiration" with his next band Fifteen, to which Aaron would respond harshly.
A tribute album was released to both Crimpshrine and Fifteen in 1996 by Microcosm Records.

^ The cover for Quit Talkin' Claude features a drawing of some punks leaning against a concrete structure. "Claude" (real name Ben) was a young East-Bay punk colleague of the band who had the reputation for frequently talking about obscure issues. He recently passed the bar exam. The drawing was made by artist Bobby Madness; an underground comic book artist of relative obscurity who lives in Portland, OR. Bobby has been a featured artist in Cometbus magazine.
