For the Belgian music band, see Daan . The Da'an District () is an important educational, commercial, residential and cultural district of Taipei City. The name of the district means "great safety" or "great peace", and the district is named after a village that was once located near the intersection of Xinyi and Fuxing S. Roads. The name "Daan" is pronounced as two syllables ("Da-an"), rather than one. The district is the home of three national universities: National Taiwan University (NTU), National Taipei University of Technology, and National Taiwan Normal University. The former two universities have strong engineering programs. (NTU has a highly-regarded medical school, but it is located in the Zhongzheng District.) Daan has numerous shopping areas.
