First Vision
depiction of the first vision of Joseph Smith, Jr., completed in 1913 by an unknown artist (Museum of Church History and Art).]] The First Vision (also called the grove experience) is an event within the Latter Day Saint movement (commonly called Mormonism) described as the appearance of God the Father and Jesus Christ?a theophany?to the fourteen-year-old Joseph Smith, Jr., that occurred in a wooded area (now called the Sacred Grove) early in the spring of 1820.
