Jaheim Hoagland (also known simply as Jaheim) is an American R&B singer. He was signed to Kaygee (of Naughty by Nature)'s Divine Mill Records in 2000 and released his debut album, Ghetto Love, through the label in 2001. His second effort, Still Ghetto, was released a year later, both to platinum success. Jaheim's third album, Ghetto Classics, was released on February 14 2006, debuting at number one on the Billboard 200 selling over 153,000 copies in its first week.

Biography

Hoagland was born on May 26 1978 in New Brunswick, New Jersey and grew up in the city's 176 Memorial Parkway Homes public housing project. Misfortune hit early when his father died in 1981, when he was only two years old. Coming from a musical family helped Hoagland overcome the tragedy and the many pitfalls of his environment. His grandfather, Victor Hoagland, sang with many groups, including The Drifters, and their family reunions were big songfests. Singing at family reunions and local talent shows preceded a successful tryout at the Apollo Theater's notoriously tough talent show. Hoagland, who has received comparisons to Teddy Pendergrass and Luther Vandross, won the contest three times when he was 15.

Two years later, Hoagland experienced more tragedy when his mother Julie, died. But he kept the faith and became a sensation in New Jersey at talent shows. Hoagland made a tape which led to a deal with Divine Mill Records (a division of Warner Brothers) four years later. Two singles, "Could It Be" and "Just In Case", were Billboard chart-toppers. Appearing with Jaheim on his first album was an all-star crew of RL (from Next), Blackstreet, and Darren and Cliff Lightly. Prior to getting his own deal, Hoagland worked with Mag supplying backing vocals on the rappers' Hustlaz Heaven CD. His second album, Still Ghetto, was released at the tail end of 2002. After a nearly four-year hiatus, Hoagland returned to the music scene with his third album, Ghetto Classics, released in February 2006, which yielded the R&B hit single "Every Time I Think About Her".

Recently, Atlantic Records became wholly owned subsidiary of Warner Music Group and in consequence moved Jaheim from Warner Bros. Records to Atlantic Records. Rumours state that he left Warner Bros. Records due to the fact that effort was not put in by Warner Bros. part to promote his junior effort, Ghetto Classics.

Now a part of Atlantic Records, he plans to release his fourth album The Makings of a Man on December 18, 2007. A song called "Never" was released on his myspace and will be featured on the album.

A new song, "I've Changed", featuring Keyshia Cole, has now been released, and is also set to be featured on his new album.
