Biography


Joan of Arc, or Jeanne d'Arc in French,Her name was written in a variety of ways, particularly prior to the mid-19th century. See Pernoud and Clin, pp. 220/221. She reportedly signed her name as "Jehanne" (see [LINK: http://www.stjoan-center.com/Album/part47.html] www.stjoan-center.com/Album/, parts 47 and [LINK: http://www.stjoan-center.com/Album/part49.html] 49; it is also noted in Pernoud and Clin). (c. 1412 – May 30, 1431) was a 15th century national heroine of France. She was tried and executed for heresy when she was only 19 years old. The judgment was broken by the Pope and she was declared innocent and a martyr 24 years later.
