Joi Cardwell is a female African American Club/Dance, House music and R&B music singer-songwriter.
Career
She has had major success on the Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart, where she placed eight songs in the top ten between 1995 to 2007. Two of her songs hit number one: "You Got to Pray" in 1996 and "Run to You" in 1997. She also lends her vocals to the works of other artists, most notably former Deee-Lite producer Towa Tei ("Luv Connection"), and Brooklyn Funk Essentials. After releasing
The World is Full of Trouble (1994) and her self-titled second album
Joi Cardwell with Eightball Records in 1995, Cardwell left the label and released her third album
Deliverance on NoMad Records in 1999.
Deliverance was a more Contemporary R&B/Soul music album than its predecessors. Her recent musical output includes the
Plain Jane Project, available for preview on her official website. The single "Mind Control" recently gained radio exposure by being added to the playlists of some Rhythmic/Dance format radio stations. Her latest single release "Believe In Us", peaked at #4 on the Hot Dance Music/Club Play during the week of February 3, 2007.
