Biography Kiril Marichkov
Kiril Marichkov () (born October 30, 1944) is a Bulgarian rock musician.
Marichkov was born in Sofia and played piano, clarinet, bass-guitar and guitar since young age. In 1963 he founded the first Bulgarian rock band "Bandaracite" (???????????) and in 1967 the most popular Bulgarian rock band ever - "Shturtzite" ("The Crickets", ???????). For now almost forty years Kiril Marichkov is invariably a frontman (solo vocal, bass guitar and keyboards) of the band. He has also composed a large part of their songs, which approximate 160, in fourteen albums. Almost all of the hit albums of the band are his compositions. Shturcite have performed over 2600 concerts in sixteen countries.
In his discography Kiril Marichkov has two solo albums - "Zodija Shturec" ("Starsign Cricket", ????? ?????, 1997) and "Iskam da kazha" ("I want to say", ????? ?? ????) which gave birth to several hits including "Vjarvam v teb ("I believe in you", ?????? ? ???), "Kletva" ("Vow", ??????), "Obicham te zavinagi" ("I love you forever", ?????? ?? ????????) and "Mojat svjat" ("My world", ???? ????).
Apart from his career as a rock musician, Kiril Marichkov has composed movie soundtracks for the movies "Vchera" ("Yesterday", ?????) (with the "Kletva" song), "Adio Rio" (???? ???), "Indianski igri" ("Indian games", ????????? ????), "Vampiri-talasymi" ("Vampires-ghouls", ???????-????????), "Dunav most" ("The bridge over Danube", ????? ????) (with the "Mojat svjat" song), "Naj-vazhnite neshta" ("The most important things", ???-??????? ????) (with the "Obicham the zavinagi" song) etc.
He is a co-founder of the only Bulgarian Rock-radiostation "Radio Tangra" (????? ??????), today "Radio Gong" (????? ????).
In 1989 he composed the soundtrack to a popular Bulgarian film of that year, Rio Adio.
In 1990, at a time of great political changes, when the communist government in Bulgaria was being replaced, his song "Az sym prosto Chovek" ("I'm only Human", ?? ??? ?????? ?????) became one of the new Democracy's anthems, sung by hundreds of thousands of people on the new Democrats' political rallies. During this period Kiril Marichkov was elected member of the Grand National Assembly as a part of the Union of Democratic Forces.
