Marri or Murri is a Baloch tribe in Balochistan and Sindh provinces of
Pakistan. Marri are considered to be clan of Rind tribe. Marri tribe are
settled in Sanghar and Shikarpur districts of Sindh. In Balochistan they
are settled in Kohlu and Sibi districts. They speak Balochi and also Sindhi
in Sindh. Many people of this tribe migrated to Afghanistan during 1970's
uprising between armed Baloch tribesmen and the government. Nawab Khair
Bakhsh Marri is the current tumandar of Marri tribe.
Marri is a Baluch tribe on the Dera Ghazi Khan District border of
Baluchistan. In the census of 1901 they numbered 19,161 and their fighting
strength is about 3,000. Their relations with the British commenced in 1840
with attacks made on the communications of Sir John Keane's army, after it
had passed through the Bolan. An attempt was made to punish the tribe,
which ended in disastrous failure. Major Clibborn was repulsed in an
