.]]Michael Geoghegan CBE (born 4 October 1953) became the HSBC Group's Chief Executive on 26 March 2006, he joined HSBC in 1973 and has previously lead the group's South American and European operations. Mr Geoghegan was born in Windsor, UK, and was educated in the United Kingdom and Ireland. In June 2003 he was honoured with a CBE (Commander Of The British Empire) by Her Majesty the Queen in recognition of his contribution to British business interests in Brazil. Mr Geoghegan is married with two sons. HSBC announced on the 28 November 2005 that he would replace Stephen Green as Chief Executive Officer of HSBC Holdings when Mr Green became Group Chairman. Having been appointed Chief Executive and a Director HSBC Bank plc on 1 January 2004, he gave up the position of UK CEO on 6 March 2006 which was in turn filled by Dyfrig John, Geoghegan becoming Deputy Chairman of HSBC Bank plc in preparation for his move to the Group Chief Executive role on 26
