Biography Motu

Motu
The term Motu can mean several things:

  • Motu is a language of Papua New Guinea.
  • MOTU, also known as "Mark of the Unicorn", a maker of professional audio hardware and software
  • Masters of the Universe, a very successful action figure line of the 1980s, commonly abbreviated as MotU or MOTU.
  • Motu, a Latin word; translated to English means "to move, arouse, affect, influence".


Islands

Motu is the word for island in many Polynesian languages - as such it is common in place names such as:
  • Motu Iti
  • Motu Nao
  • Motu Nui
  • Motu Oa
  • Motu One
  • Motu Paahi
  • Motueka
  • Motukawao
  • Motuloa
  • Motutapu
  • Tuamotu


As well as meaning island, it also means cut off (as islands are from the mainland) or by extension isolated.

  • Motu River in New Zealand, so named because of the isolation of a village (also called Motu) in its headwaters by thick forests.
