New Monsoon is at its core a rock jam band that is based in the San Francisco, CA area that was founded in 1998 by Penn State classmates Bo Carper and Jeff Miller. They mainly are a west coast band, but have made trips to the east coast, most recently as part of the Big Summer Classic Tour. This tour was run by label-mates the String Cheese Incident and featured bands like Umphrey's McGee, Yonder Mountain String Band, and Keller Williams. They have recently released their third studio album, entitled The Sound. The musical compositions that the band creates are influenced by everything from jazz, to Latin themes, to Indian music. In their live shows, the band tries to provide a "synthesis of genres, everything from bluegrass to reggae, to funk and rock 'n' roll."
