Vivienne Patricia "Patti" Scialfa ("Skal-fa") (born July 29 1953) is an American singer, songwriter, and guitarist, best known for being a bandmate, and later wife, of rock star Bruce Springsteen. Early life Scialfa was born in affluent Deal, New Jersey. She was the middle child of Joseph Scialfa and Patricia (nee Morris) Scialfa. She also has half-siblings from her father's second marriage. Unlike her future husband -- and unknown to many Springsteen fans, who assumed her roots were working-class -- she came from a comfortable background. Her father and mother were successful local entrepreneurs, who started with a single television store and became real estate developers. Scialfa was writing songs from an early age and first worked professionally as a back-up singer for New Jersey bar bands after she completed high school.
