Spyder D was a classic "old school" rapper from New York City who combined
elements of jazz and funk in his live instrumental backing tracks. Big
Apple Rappin was perhaps his most famous 12-inch LP, released in 1981.
Another great track was I Can't Wait (To Rock The Mike), released in 1986
as single.
There were a number of others from the early 1980s as well, such as the
house party hit "Smerphie's Dance", a now very sampled cult classic. Not
to be confused with another early 80's song called "The Smurf", which was
performed by D.C. artist, Tyrone Brunson. His brand of music revealed a
laid back attitude, humor, and killer skills on the microphone. He
released a full length album in 2000 entitled True Dat, which didn't earn
nearly the acclaim that his early work did.
Spyder D's best known and probably best ever release was his version of "I
can't Wait" - a huge tune for Nu Shooz - Spyder D added his rap to this
