The Breakaways :

Two bands have used "The Breakaways" as their moniker. In the 1960s, The
Breakaways were a female vocal trio. In the late 1970s, The Breakaways were
a California-based underground rock outfit. The 60s female group known as
The Breakaways consisted of Jean Hawker, Margot Newman, and Vicki Brown. In
addition to recording their own songs, they did session work with many
artists, including the background vocals on The Jimi Hendrix Experience's
version of Hey Joe.
The 70s male rock group consisted of Paul Collins and Peter Case from The
Nerves with Pat Stengl. The Nerves were an independent rock band who wrote
the song Hanging On The Telephone and toured with The Ramones. When
bandmate Jack Lee went solo, Collins and Case recorded several songs as The
Breakaways until both musicians parted ways. Collins formed The Beat, also
known as Paul Collins' Beat, whilst Case formed a new wave band called The
Plimsouls. Today, both key members remain active in the music scene,
