The Lillingtons (1995-2001, 2006-present) are a rock and roll band from Newcastle, Wyoming who made a mark on the world of punk rock.
Considered a pop punk act by contemporaries, they self-released their first full-length album titled
Shit Outta Luck in 1996. After a series of vinyl-only releases the band decided to change their sound, and in 1999 they went into the studio with producer-engineer Mass Giorgini to record a new LP. The result was Death By Television, an album which took sci-fi movie-themed songs such as "War Of The Worlds" and "Invasion Of The Saucermen" and combined them with tracks that made references to other schlocky retro themes, such as "X-Ray Specs" and "I Need Some Brain Damage". NOFX's Fat Mike has been quoted praising the fan-favorite record as "the best pop-punk album of all time."
The band would spend the next two years touring heavily within the underground punk scene. They decided to call it quits after teaming with Giorgini for one last album, the spy-themed LP
The Backchannel Broadcast, which included the song "Wait It Out," written by Ben Weasel (released in February 2001 on Lookout!). The Riverdales later re-recorded "Wait it Out" for their record
Third Phase. The Original line up consisting of Kody, Zack, Cory, and Tim as a four piece was only prevalent on their first 7" release "I Lost My Marbles", produced by Joe King of The Queers for his
More Bounce to the Ounce compilation cd. The band went on as a three piece after Zack quit. John Jughead (of Screeching Weasel and Even in Blackouts) filled in as 2nd guitar on many tour stops on the Death by Television and Backchannel tours. Other notable appearances on these tours include Ben Weasel (at The Fireside in Chicago, his first stage appearance since 1995), and Lurch Nobody. Timmy V left the band after "Death by Television" and was replaced by Austin, Texas drummer Scott. Frontman Kody Templeman is currently a member of Laramie, Wyoming pop punk band Teenage Bottlerocket. Drummer Timmy V is currently playing as a hired hand with Albuquerque, New Mexico all girl 3 piece The Eyeliners, and plays drums in his own project Stabbed in Back, a one piece of hardcore/punk entitled
A Portrait of Noise. Second drummer Scott has been rumored to be somewhere in Austin, Texas. The band called it quits for a number of years before reuniting with all original members to release a new album,
The Too Late Show in 2006 with no plans on reuniting for a tour to support due to members other commitments.
Red Scare Industries recently (2005) reissued
Death By Television and
Backchannel Broadcast.
Former frontman Kody, bassist Cory, guitarist Zach, and Ray and Brandon from Teenage Bottlerocket have a side project Sack that put out an album entitled
Get Wrecked on Clearview Records.
The band gave permission for their music to be used in a 2007 internet video production called
Homeless Hero. The show also features music by Teenage Bottlerocket.
