    The Wild Swans
    The Wild Swans (De vilde svaner) is a fairy tale written by the Danish author Hans Christian Andersen. Story overview Far away from here there once lived a king who had eleven sons and one daughter, Elisa. The children were happy until the king married a wicked queen who sent Elisa away and turned her brothers into wild swans. When Elisa turned fifteen she went in search of her brothers. She reached the ocean and here she saw eleven swans wearing gold crowns. Just then the sun set, the feathers fell away, and before her stood her brothers! They told her that during the day they were swans, but at night they turned back into princes. They lived far across the ocean and only once a year, when the days were the longest, did they dare to cross the ocean to visit their home country.
