Biography Yavuz Çetin




Yavuz Çetin (1970 - August 15, 2001) was a Turkish musician. He was born in Samsun, Turkey. His father, Erdan Çetin, was a journalist, Yavuz spent his childhood in many different places in Turkey.

At the age of 14, he began to take blues and rock guitar lessons from Hasan Cihat Örter. In 1985, he began to play acoustic guitar and later took up the electric guitar. He graduated from the Haydarpa?a High School in Istanbul. With his high school classmate Ercan Saatçi, now a famous musician and a sports journalist, wrote the tune "I Will Cry" and won the music competition of the HEY magazine. He was later admitted to the faculty of music at the Marmara University in Istanbul.

Between 1980s and 1990s, Çetin played at the Beyaz Ev (White House) in Bodrum.In 1991, he formed a band named "Blue Blues Band", together with Batu Mutlugil, Kerim Çapl? and Sunay Özgür. From 1996 to his death he played guitar with the famous band Mazhar-Fuat-Özkan at many concerts.

He collaborated in various albums with artists such as Teoman, K?raç, Sibel Tüzün, Soner Ar?ca, Göksel, and Acil Servis. In Göksel's hit song "Sab?r", he was the first Turkish guitar player to use a Talk box.

He worked on many advertisements, including Coca-Cola's spot, and his tune "Dünya"(the World) has been chosen as part of Erkan O?ur's "Propaganda" movie soundtrack.

In 1997, with the production of Ercan Saatçi, published his first album "?lk..."(First...) but the album couldn't achieve a good success.

Due to deep depression and difficulties to stand the frenetic city life, on August 15, 2001, he committed suicide by jumping from the Bosphorus Bridge. After his death the album "Sat?l?k" (On sale) was published using the recording which Yavuz completed in the last days of his life.
